Announced today, the Suunto 9 Peak is the company’s smallest and lightest GPS sports watch that the company has released. Weighing in at a svelte 62 grams for the titanium version and 62 grams for the standard, the Suunto 9 Peak watch is just over half the weight and width of the Suunto 9 Baro, but that doesn’t mean it’s light on features.
Suunto 9 Peak Watch Utility
Inside the minimalistic Nordic design are all the features you’ll find in the Suunto 9 line of watches, including over 80 preset sport modes that include running, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and swimming. In addition, customizable screens let you pick and choose what data sets are readily available, wrist-based heart rate monitoring, and even in-depth weather insights. It can also provide route import and turn-by-turn navigation with the route-planning app Komoot. And, of course, it works with the Suunto app, so you can plan routes with sport-specific heatmaps and popular starting points, which can be built and transferred to the watch for offline navigation.
Newer features include automatic backlight adjustment, a summary face that showcases your weekly training metrics, and an upgrade to Bluetooth 5 that doubles the sync speed between your watch and the Suunto app. One of the coolest new features, however, is the blood oxygen level measurements to help you determine your acclimation levels at altitude. This could be the perfect app for mountaineers or anyone who spends a lot of time exploring at higher altitudes. It’ll be great to see this feature in action.
Despite its smaller case, the Suunto 9 Peak promises plenty of power, as well. It can rock a battery life of up to 170 hours of GPS battery in Tour Mode (thanks to a new upgrade that the entire Suunto 9 line is getting), and the titanium and sapphire glass face give it some added durability for your gnarlier adventures.
