A soft, supportive undergarment that doesn’t pinch, but does protect your precious bits, is a simple but profound joy. And while most people prioritize their laptops below the anatomy they’re designed to rest on, they’re still important — and expensive.
That’s why California-based Incase builds a faux fur-lined, shock-absorbing sleeve into its new commuter backpack, the Reform. The sleeve can handle either 13” or 16” worth of laptop, and it’s sheathed in Tensaerlite, the brand’s in-house cushioning material developed from athletic shoes.
Incase builds packs designed to hold up to the rigors of the urban jungle, and the Reform laptop backpack is no exception. It’s constructed mainly from heathered weave 300D nylon, with abrasion-resistant 840D nylon woven in. Without getting too far into the technicalities, that should make it plenty tough for daily use. And a ventilation channel, plus padded straps, help keep sweating and chafing at bay.
It’s built semi-rigidly, with a stable base to make it stand up once you get planted in your work/play/bitcoin-mining location.
Note that both the 13” and 16” versions of the pack have the same external dimensions and interior capacity — the only difference is the sleeve size. MSRP is also identical, at $150. Each pack holds 17L, standing 18” tall and 11” wide.
The clamshell rear zipper reveals the springy sleeve, which secures closed at the top. In its various standalone laptop sleeves, Incase often uses Tensaerlite as a bumper, protecting against drop impacts. Here, it appears to fulfill that function as well as to support the sleeve within the pack’s overall structure.
The faux fur inside is a lovely touch — supportive items lined with the fuzzy-wuzzy stuff have a rich and evocative history. We’re somehow reminded of Austin Powers, Twiggy, Burt Reynolds, and the interior of Lil Nas X’s capes all at once.
Let’s get one thing clear: your laptop is not your life, nor is it the priceless bauble of an astonishing celebrity, nor is it irreplaceable. But with all that it allows for you — between its capacity to help you make money, order food, and watch multiple forms of pleasurable internet videos, doesn’t it deserve the best?
