About Us
At Gear Hungry, we offer useful, time-saving buying guides for online shoppers. Our staff focuses on researching and testing the best household goods, furniture, apparel, electronics, and appliances. We work hard to sift through thousands of products by researching web magazines, blogs, retailers, and other product compendiums. We then handpick the best amongst them for deeper research and in-house testing.
Our goal is simple: to give you the best buying advice to save you time and money. And each month, we help about 3 million consumers do just that with our product guides.
Gear Hungry: Some History
Launched in 2011, Gear Hungry is a digital magazine acquired by Lola Digital Media in 2019. It’s a member of the AllGear group that includes GearJunkie.com, BikeRumor.com, ExplorersWeb.com, and Improb.com.
While several of our sites are highly focused on outdoors and recreational products, Gear Hungry applies our same expertise and rigorous testing standard to goods you use every day, from home to the office. And for 2021, we pledge to go farther.
AllGear: Testing and Research
In January 2021, the AllGear group expanded our gear testing program already in place at GearJunkie.com, where the team focuses on outdoor gear. The expansion includes deep research and in-person product testing for every new and updated article we publish.
Gear Hungry does not and will not accept paid placements in our buyers’ guides. We also will not accept payment for positive reviews. Our guides are our best advice for you, the consumer, and aimed at being fair and impartial.
The Gear Hungry Pledge
We pledge to do our best to provide you with accurate, useful, and timely advice for product buying. Our goal is to save you time researching products with the absolute best information we can create. To do this, we will enlist experts (noted within articles), test products, and aggregate consumer reviews to help steer you in the right direction. And we’ll go a step further, noting which products are the best, as well as the best values and budget picks depending on your needs.
About Gear Hungry: Who We Are

We have an insatiable appetite for top-of-the-line products; whatever your poison is, you’ll be able to find the very best of it here. Find us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Fancy, or use your favorite feed reader (we like Feedly) to subscribe to our RSS feed.
Our Experts
Billy Brown is Editor at Gear Hungry.
He has a problem sitting still. His constant search for the next challenge has him doing everything from running ultramarathons and climbing 14er’s to gaining 40 pounds to compete in powerlifting, breaking several state records and growing a killer beard in the process. With over a decade of writing under his belt, his work, covering action sports, gear, and beer, can be found in a variety of publications. He lives with his wife and their two cats in Sacramento, California.
Jilli is a freelance copyeditor and writer out of Austin, where she lives with her one-eared dog, George Michael.
She dedicates most of her downtime to flailing on one of her many, many climbing projects.
Sam Anderson has followed a passion for well-told stories and nature's beauty from university classrooms to mountain adventures. After earning a bachelor's degree in literature, he leaned into a life fueled by road tripping, rock climbing, coffee and beer, and renegade camping. He has worked as a chainsaw operator, house carpenter, and window cleaner, at one point running his own window cleaning business. He has finally settled with his girlfriend and small zoo in the western American desert, trading his tool belt for a keyboard.
Tuesday Kirby Kahl is a contributor at Gear Hungry. Her fierce love for the outdoors fuels everything she does. Her professional pursuits include writing, creating art, and photography. These professional passions allow her the time to live life outside as a rock climber, skier, runner, backpacker, paddle boarder, swimmer, and explorer.
When Kirby is indoors, she enjoys tea, whisky, old films, cooking, and baking. Her product testing and feedback have shaped the design of everything from climbing shoes to candles.

Born and raised in Idaho, Chris's sensibilities are a small town, while his life experiences are anything but. He's had the chance to travel the globe with a camera in hand documenting action sports and cultural movements for over 15 years. His love of motorcycles, photography, adventure, and the outdoors has lent itself to a career telling stories and he wouldn't trade that for anything.
Chris now resides in a small ski town in central Idaho and when he's not grinding away at his day job, he's feverishly penning articles at night about the products and playgrounds he loves.
